“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Every word in the Scriptures are God-inspired. Because of this, you can build your life on the authenticity of God’s Word. It was relevant to Abraham, Moses and the saints gone by. It is relevant to us today and it will remain relevant to the next generation of Christians. This is why the Bible says “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).
How than do we sail by Scriptures since they are inspired by God?
i) They are profitable for doctrines:
Doctrines are the guiding principle of anybody or organization. You can write the constitution of your home, marriage, company and even nation based on the principles of Scriptures. Any constitution that is based on the Scriptures will stand the test of eternity. Raise your children based on Scriptures. Do business based on Scriptures etc. and it will stand the test of time.
ii) It is profitable for instructions unto righteousness:
Whenever you are on a cross road, make reference to the word of God, The Bible says that the Scripture is a lamp unto our feet and alight unto our path (Psalm 119:105). It helps us to make both short term and long-term decision. It is our councellor as seen in Psalm 119:24 which says “Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors”.
iii) For Correction:
God’s word can correct us irrespective of how far and how long we have been deceived. You know Global positioning system(GPS) that can help recalculate when we miss your track while driving. The Scriptures are more effective than GPS.Do not sit down to mourn over the wrong steps you have taken and the consequencesthereof. You can start from where you are to engage God’s word and it will help you navigate from darkness to light and from obscurity to prominence
iv) That a man of God may be perfect:
It takes a perfect word to create a perfect man. Perfection is possible when we allow God’s word to remold our soul.
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” – Psalm 19:7
No matter what you are struggling with, stay in the word until it creates a new mold out of your old self.
v) Thoroughly furnished:
An Engineer who works with Scriptural principle will build better bridges than one who is not inspired. A surgeon who is inspired by Scriptures will do better than one who limits himself by what his medical books say. The former will know that the works of his hands are blessed. He will aim for excellence knowing that for instance, God took Adam’s rib to make Eve and left no scar behind. The Scriptures thoroughly furnishes unto good works irrespective of our callings and area of influence.
